Smaller far right parties like the English Democrats, the BNP, the National Front and Liberty GB decided they had no moral qualms with standing. As did a a string of independents, including Waqas Ali Khan. Khan is a UKIP member, approved to stand for election for the party through their own processes. As he explains on Twitter, UKIP has not disciplined him for standing as an independent.
The Dewsbury, Batley and Spen UKIP branch does not seem to endorse his candidacy, with a statement on the front page of their website reading
"We will not endorse or comment on any particular candidate in the by-election and would encourage our members and supporters to vote with their own conscience."
Why has UKIP not suspended Khan for standing in Batley and Spen?
