Former child actor & cryptocurrency entrepreneur Brock Pierce joins presidential race

Former Disney child actor and Bitcoin millionaire Brock Pierce announced his bid for the US presidency over the weekend as an independent.

After appearing in commercials as a toddler and later landing roles in films such as The Mighty Ducks and First Kid, Pierce retired from acting aged 17 to co-found Digital Entertainment Network, which produced original video content aimed at niche audiences for online distribution. After the success of the Network, Pierce co-founded Blockchain Network in 2013, becoming a key player while the market was still in its infancy.

Launching his campaign, Pierce said:

"I've spent my life creating great things from nothing and I can help others do the same,"

"Entrepreneurs are essential to the rebuilding of this nation that we love, and I'm running in this race because I know that together we can help build a pathway towards the rebirth of the America we love so much."

Pierce was estimated to be worth between $700 million and $1.1 billion by Forbes in February 2018, and was named in the "top 20 wealthiest people in Crypto". Over recent years he has spent significant amounts of money on philanthropic work. It is as yet unclear what major policy positions Pierce will take during his campaign.

He will have to content with previous accusations of impropriety. In 2000, three former Digital Entertainment Network employees filed a lawsuit against Pierce claiming that he provided them with drugs and pressured the for sex when they were underage, Court records at the time showed that Pierce paid $21,000 to settle one of the lawsuits, while the other two were dropped.

With Donald Trump and Joe Biden confirmed for the Republicans and Democrats respectively, and Kanye West also confirming his bid over the weekend, the race for the White House may become increasingly congested as we get closer to the 3rd of November.
